Important Community Alert, Fake AI Impersonation Scams Using My Name

I want to make everyone aware of an important issue that was recently brought to my attention by one of our members.

A fake AI-generated YouTube channel has been created that appears to be me. This is not my channel. It is an impersonation designed to mislead people into a scam.

I am sharing this publicly to help protect our community and the broader investing public.

Why I Am Sharing This

This is the original YouTube video link that was sent to us by a member. Thank you to those who take the time to alert us when something does not look right.

I am sharing this example so you can see firsthand what AI-generated impersonation can look like. To someone who does not know me well, it would be easy to fall for. While the visuals may appear convincing, the tone and cadence are slightly off from how I normally speak.

This is the YouTube channel that is producing these fake videos.

If you take a closer look at the channel, several red flags become clear:

  • Every video features only me
  • There are no interviews, discussions, or appearances with other market professionals
  • The channel was created on December 10, 2025
  • My official The Technical Traders YouTube channel was created on September 13, 2011, and I only have one channel

If this were a legitimate gold, silver, or market-focused channel, you would see a wider range of content and contributors. Longevity matters, and newly created channels impersonating established individuals should always be treated with caution.

AI Impersonation Is Becoming More Common

From what we are seeing, fake AI-generated channels impersonating real people are appearing rapidly across YouTube and other platforms. Once someone has been around long enough and built trust over time, their public persona can become a target for misuse.

This is not unique to me. It is happening across the financial industry and beyond.

How to Report a Fake YouTube Video

Another member (thank you!) shared the following reporting steps, which I am passing along for awareness:

  1. Click the three dots under the video
  2. Select “Report”
  3. Choose “Harassment or harmful content.”
  4. Explain that the video is an AI-generated impersonation using the identity of a real person

Reporting these videos helps platforms identify and remove harmful content more quickly.

Reminder of a Previous Scam Using My Name

The last scam we were alerted to occurred in June of 2023, and the details are still relevant today.

This scam operated on WhatsApp under the name “The Chris Vermeulen Financial Studies Club.”

Some of the key characteristics included:

  • A heavy focus on cryptocurrencies
  • Claims that I was an expert in crypto
  • Mentions of the Dfinity Foundation and a Dfinity Digital Currency Exchange
  • Repeated references to “Mr. Chris Vermeulen”
  • A website that opened to an error page
  • Promotion of dividend trading
  • Requests to deposit funds using Crypto.com

To Be Absolutely Clear

The reality is:

  • I do not run, and will never run, any strategy, group, or service on WhatsApp, Telegram, or private messaging apps
  • I am not a cryptocurrency expert and do not actively follow or promote crypto markets
  • The Technical Traders Ltd is not affiliated with Dfinity or any digital currency exchange
  • No one on my team would refer to me formally as “Mr. Chris Vermeulen”
  • I do not believe dividend trading alone is a solution for investors
  • I operate a subscription-based financial newsletter

Taking a moment to verify can prevent serious financial harm.

Another simple safety habit is hovering your mouse over links before clicking. Your browser will display the true destination of the link. If it does not match what is shown, that is often a warning sign.
